About CPA

CPA UK and the Anguilla House of Assembly have successfully partnered to strengthen democracy and good governance in the UK Overseas Territory since 2015 Anguilla. Members from the CPA Anguilla Branch have participated in CPA programs including the Fundamentals Programme for Parliamentarians, and in 2020, Anguilla became the eleventh legislature to use the CPA Democratic Benchmarks framework Anguilla House of Assembly.

The House of Assembly of Anguilla is a proud member of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), one of the Commonwealth's oldest established organizations founded in 1911. The CPA brings together over 180 legislatures across nine geographic regions, united by a shared commitment to parliamentary democracy, the rule of law, and individual rights and freedoms. As a member branch, Anguilla's House of Assembly benefits from extensive opportunities for parliamentarians and parliamentary staff to collaborate on issues of mutual interest, share best practices, and strengthen democratic governance. The CPA's mission to promote knowledge of constitutional, legislative, economic, social and cultural aspects of parliamentary democracy directly supports our Assembly's commitment to effective representation and democratic excellence. Through participation in CPA conferences, training programs, and knowledge-sharing initiatives, our Members gain valuable insights into parliamentary procedures, governance innovations, and democratic development that enhance their ability to serve the people of Anguilla. Under the patronage of His Majesty King Charles III, Head of the Commonwealth, the CPA continues to foster the positive ideals of parliamentary democracy that unite Commonwealth nations in their pursuit of good governance and democratic accountability.
