Haydn Hughes is a proud father of three. He was born to Hubert and Norma Hughes on October 13th and have lived in South Hill all his life.
He is a former Banker and Hospitality professional who spent three years in banking and Sixteen in the hospitality sector where he was an Executive at the famed Cap Juluca Hotel. He is also the first Anguillian winner of the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA) Scholarship that afforded him studies at Ecole Hoteliere De Lausanne in Switzerland. He studied wine making in 1998 throughout France and interned at the Savoy in London. He is a past representative of Anguilla in Track & Field and a past physical education teacher. He continues to contribute to social causes and is a frequent speaker at the local public schools.
He is the eldest of three boys and on December 17, 2014, he lost one of his brothers suddenly.
He has owned and operated Dungeon Gym since 1995 and Jayes Events Rental Space since 2015.
He contested the Road North and Road South constituencies in 2005 and 2015 respectively and lost both times. He was successful at the polls in June of 2020 where he served as the Minister of Tourism, Infrastructure, Housing, Telecommunications, Public Utilities and Ports. He again contested the general election in 2025 and while he won his seat, his party lost and he is now a Member of the Opposition.
He was the first President of the Anguilla Independence Movement (AIM), an organization geared towards the decolonization of Anguilla and is an ardent decolonist and hosted the Radio Talk show, On Da Spot with Haydn Hughes for 13 years.
He served as a member of Parliament for just over a decade from 2010 to 2015 as Parliamentary Secretary and held responsibility for Tourism and as Minister of Tourism and ICUH from 2020 to 2025.
He continues to be an activist for the development of people in particular the youth and is passionate about sports, the arts and his native land.
